Amy With The Bashful Pony - May 7, 2007

Shortly after this picture was taken, I checked out the ladies' room (located right behind me). Heftily positioned by the sinks was a woman who was frantically squirting blobs of handsoap into patrons' hands, doling out paper towels, and wiping up misplaced water. Now, I'm not sure if the restaurant had employed her to do this job or what, but she pretty much expected a tip in her jar. It was very odd, and it definitely didn't feel worth a dollar to me. I can squeeze my own hand soap, and I don't need a glob the size of a baseball. - Amy McKenna

mmm... I had the SAME experience at a restaurant in downtown Detroit. At first I didn't know what to do, but then I felt bad when I realized she wanted a tip & I had left my purse at my table. Yes, it is an odd experience. Its fairly commonplace in nice European restaurants but not as much here!
